Our Constitution

The constitution, which was created using the SCVO template and was approved by OSCR and adopted by members, is a long document which can be found here. Briefly though, it starts:

  • Type of organisation The organisation will, upon registration, be a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
  • Principal office The principal office of the organisation will be in Scotland (and must remain in Scotland).
  • Name The name of the organisation is “A Greener Melrose (SCIO)”.
  • Purposes The Organisation has been formed for the public benefit of the residents of postcode TD6 and neighbouring areas within the Scottish Borders (the “Community”), using sustainable development principles.
  • It is a ‘Not for profit’ organisation.
  • The Organisation’s Purposes are to:
    • 1. protect, conserve, and improve the environment,
    • 2. promote developments that are sustainable,
    • 3. utilise and develop the collective abilities of the local community to:
      • a) promote: health and well-being; local food production; and both urban and rural regeneration,
      • b) build a more resilient, stronger community,
      • c) reduce carbon emissions,
      • d) facilitate a circular sustainable economy,
      • e) advance nature-centred and people-centred land use,
    • 4. to promote understanding of the consequences of inaction re. clause 3
