The constitution, which was created using the SCVO template and was approved by OSCR and adopted by members, is a long document which can be found here. Briefly though, it starts:
- Type of organisation The organisation will, upon registration, be a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).
- Principal office The principal office of the organisation will be in Scotland (and must remain in Scotland).
- Name The name of the organisation is “A Greener Melrose (SCIO)”.
- Purposes The Organisation has been formed for the public benefit of the residents of postcode TD6 and neighbouring areas within the Scottish Borders (the “Community”), using sustainable development principles.
- It is a ‘Not for profit’ organisation.
- The Organisation’s Purposes are to:
- 1. protect, conserve, and improve the environment,
- 2. promote developments that are sustainable,
- 3. utilise and develop the collective abilities of the local community to:
- a) promote: health and well-being; local food production; and both urban and rural regeneration,
- b) build a more resilient, stronger community,
- c) reduce carbon emissions,
- d) facilitate a circular sustainable economy,
- e) advance nature-centred and people-centred land use,
- 4. to promote understanding of the consequences of inaction re. clause 3
